Hi This is Akiko. Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! I am sorry that I couldn’t update my blog last week…

保育園で熱を出して帰って来て以来、お医者さんにもらった抗生剤を飲んでもいっこうによくならないコールダー。
挙げ句の果てご飯を一口も食べなくなり、これは…と思いもう一度お医者さんへ向かう道。
Calder was bedridden for 4 days and did not seem to be getting any better even with prescribed antibiotics. He finally stopped eating all together, so I decided to take him to see a doctor again.

あちゃー、高速に乗るところで後ろからぶつけられてしまいました。
幸い後ろが少し凹んだのとライトが割れた程度で済みました。アンとアンディの車のステッカーが救ってくれたのかな。
On the way to the clinic, I got bumped at the highway lamp… It ended only with minor cosmetic damaged. Maybe the bumper sticker with Ann & Andy has something to do with that.

お尻におっきな注射をしてもらって、今日から保育園に行かれたのでブログも復活です！

アンとアンディの故郷、アルコラの隣にArthur（アーサー）という町があります。今でも電気を使わない昔ながらの暮らしを続けているアーミッシュの人達が多く住む地域です。
Do you know where the name Arthur might be coming from? There is a little town called Arthur next to the Raggedy Ann&Andy’s hometown, Arcola? That is a little Raggedy trivia!

さて、今週の金曜日はいよいよNY国立ストロングおもちゃの博物館でラガディ・アン９５周年の記念式典が開催されます。私も明後日木曜日から車で出掛けて来ます！
This Friday is Raggedy Ann’s 95th Birthday Ceremony at the Strong Museum in Rochester. I plan to drive up there on this Thursday, too!

UStreamで特別に実況中継出来ないかな？と思ったのですが、メディア関係者が立ち会うので残念ながら、ダメでした…でもこのブログでお見せ出来る限りレポートさせてもらいますので、楽しみにしててね！
Broadcasting the event on UStream might be something interesting, I thought, but I could not get a permission! I will try to report the event as much as I could here at my blog instead. Please look forward to my repot from Rochester next week.

７月９日のストロング国立おもちゃの博物館での『ラガディ・アン９５回目のお誕生日セレモニー』が近づいて来ましたね。
Raggedy Ann’s 95th Birthday ceremony at Strong National Museum of Play® on July 9th is just around the corner. (The schedule is below.) We are discussing to get together for a dinner among the ones who attend this event.

参加者全員で大きな、大きなバースデーカードに『アンちゃん、お誕生日おめでとう！』とサインしたり、これまた大きな大きなバースデーケーキに飾るキャンドルを作ったり、博物館のあちこちに隠されたアンとアンディを探したりと、楽しいイベントも企画されています！
Guests will have the opportunity to sign an oversized birthday card and create candles for a gigantic pretend birthday cake. A Raggedy Ann scavenger hunt will lead guests on a search for hidden Raggedy Ann objects cleverly placed throughout the museum’s many exciting galleries.

このイベントの後、ラガディファンで集まって近くのレストランで夕食をしようということになりました。ストロング国立博物館の近くで午後６時半から。

日本からこのイベントに参加するあなたもアメリカのラガディファンの皆と一緒に食事とお話を楽しみませんか？興味があるあなたは、７月２日（金）（←ごめんなさい修正しました）までに私までメール下さい！！

Anybody who is interested in having a dinner together after the event, please contact me via email by July 2. We plan to start the dinner at 6:30 pm. We will let you know the details.

少しの間お休みしていましたが「原作本を読んでみよう！」再開です！

残念ながら今まで日本でアンとアンディの原作の絵本は日本語で出版されていません。その日が１日も早く来るようにお祈りしながら、少しずつ一緒に読んで行きましょう！

The original Raggedy books by Johnny Gruelle have never been published in Japanese. I am reading his books each week to share the adventures of Ann&Andy with my Japanese Raggedy friends until a day comes when these books become available in Japan.

第三作目『ラガディ・アン＆アンディ and キャメル　ウィズ　リンクルド　ニー』（最初1924年に発売されました。訳すと「しわしわお膝のらくだ」）何度となく重版されて1960年に出版されたものを読んでます。

「違うのよ。私は妖精の女王様ではないの。私は妖精の王女。」今まで魔女だった妖精はそう言うと、もう一度は魔法の杖を振りました。

すると、海賊達の船は妖精の光に包まれ地面の上を弾み始めました。それはまるで船が海の上を航海しているかのように浮かんだり、沈んだりゆっくりと心地よく動きました。

「魔女のおばあさんがこんなに優しい人だったなんて、なんだか不思議じゃな」年寄り馬は妖精の王女さまに言いました。

「そうだね、見かけで判断しちゃいけないね。」ラガディ・アンディが言いました。

「その通りよ。」妖精の王女さまは答えました。

「でもみんな身なりで人を判断するわね。とても醜い貝の中にも、美しい真珠が入っていたり、ぼろぼろになった表紙の本にも、とても優しいお話が隠れていたりするのにね。外側で判断してはいけないの。大切なのは中味。でもね、その中味の良さを隠して独り占めしては行けないのよ。他の人にも分け与えなければ行けないの。与えたものは、必ず自分に返って来るものだから。思いやりでいっぱいの気持ちを持てば、その心は行動に現れるの。」妖精の王女さまは微笑みながら言いました。

「保育園行くーっ」
先週から朝自分で保育園に行きたいと言うようになりました。
「バイバイ」保育園から出ようとすると
「チューしてからね」アメリカのお友達がするように口にチューしてハグしに来ます。
こうしてコールダーもアメリカ人になって行くんだなぁ。

一番上のお兄ちゃんのバスケの試合を見てるコールダーとまん中のお兄ちゃん。

Calder came over to gave me a kiss and a hug when I said goodbye to Calder after dropping him off at pre-school last week. He’s never done that before. It is funny to observe how he is becoming American by mimicking his peers not just by birth.

It started thundering and lightning last night after I sent Calder to bed.
“If you stay awake, it will come and get you!”
“No. Even if I stay awake, it only makes a noise and shines.”
“(True…)OK. I was wrong, but if you don’t go to sleep now, you cannot get up in the morning.”
“You are right, Mama.”
He fell right asleep after he said this.

ベッドに入ってもなかなか寝ないコールダー。そこへ雷が鳴り始めた。

「早く寝ない子のところには雷が来るよ。」
「違うよっ。起きてても雷は光って鳴るだけだよ。」
（確かに…）
「分かった。ママの間違えだった。早く寝ないと明日朝起きられないよ。」
「そうでしょ、ママ。」
納得が行ったかすぐに寝息を立て始めた。

Only days are printed not specific dates on this book. So the basic idea is this. You can use it as a diary or as a supplement to the regular Raggedy monthly schedule book that we produce every year. Our designer came up with two different styles. Which style fits you best?

「毎年発売の月間スケジュール帳に書き切れない予定を書くウィークリーのスケジュール帳が欲しい。」
「一言日記を作って欲しい。」
この２つのご要望に答えて、今フリースタイルのダイアリー／スケジュール帳を企画しています。
曜日だけで、日付は自分で書き入れるもの。
