I stayed with a family in L.A. 21 years ago when I was a college student. Without that one year, I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing, I would not be living in the U.S., and moreover, I would have not met Gary and Calder. Now it is my turn to be a host mom! You never know how life turns out to be!

Our last week’s lunch was at Cafe Kabul Kabobs. This afghanistan dish, Peshawari Chaplee Kabob($9.49), grilled beef patties with freshly ground spices, was great! And, this is the first restaurant so far that we will certainly come back to!

先週で３冊目の『ラガディ・アン＆アンディ and キャメル ウィズ リンクルド ニー』を読み終わりました。
本当は1924年に出版された、４冊目『ラガディ・アンディーの数字の本 (Raggedy Andy’s Number Book)』を読みたいのですが、残念ながら手元にありません。もし、お持ちの方がいたら貸して頂けませんか？
We finished reading “Raggedy Ann and Andy and Camel with Wrinkled Knees” last week. I wanted to start reading his 4th book, “Raggedy Andy’s Number Book” published in 1924. However, I do not have that book with me. If you happen to have a copy, would you kindly lend it to me?

We went to an Irish Festival in Dublin, OH, 20 min away from here in Columbus. We were expecting it to be only in the heart of town with some tents and Irish beer, but we were Wrong!!
It was so big that there was even shuttle services from different parking areas. Luckily, Gary’s customer lives in this town. So we parked and walked from there. We are all set to be drinking responsibly, haha!
会場内にはいくつかステージがあって、様々なバンドが演奏してた。芝生だと疲れたら座り込めて、ラクチン！
There were series of bands playing at different stages, and the setting was perfect for a family outing. 子供が遊べるコーナーもとっても充実。アイリッシュシチューにコンビーフサンドイッチに、アイルランドの料理にビールに、ギフトショップに…行かなかったけど、アイルランドのウィスキーのテースティングのテントもありました。３日間で１５万人もの人が来るのも頷けるね！
And, Calder had lots of fun, too! Vendors served Irish stew, corned beef sandwich, etc… and, of course, Irish beer. I can see why over 150,000 people visits this festival each year!
先週末は５時間ドライブしてミシガン州のパパの友達の農場に行って来ました。（はい、毎週よく運転していますっ：笑）
We drove up for 5 hrs. to visit our friend’s farm in Michigan last weekend. (Yes, I drive a lot!!)

「うん、覚えてるよ。トラクターでいーっぱい石運んだよね。」
“Do you remember Uncle Sam’s house, Calder?”
“Yes, I do. I moved a lot of rocks in his tractor.”

Recently, Calder stated to tell me that he wanted a big black doggy.
“When we move in next March, OK?” I told him this expecting him to forget about it by then, but it does not seem like that is going to happen!?

I recently received this email from one Raggedy collector who must have learned about the Wendy’s Kids Meal campaign from my blog.
「私もキャンペーンのポスターを指差して『これ、これが欲しいんです！』って言ってやっともらえたから試してみて。」とお返事。
“I know! I had to point at the campaign poster to get what I wanted, too!” I replied.
そうしてようやく手に入れた絵本は「『I Spy!』とは違う絵本だった」という情報が…
“The book that I got at Wendy’s in not I spy. You think they had two different books??” was her reply back.

あなたも大好きなラガディのカレンダー他のグッズを作っているメーカーの南社長ご夫妻も日本から駆けました。
Just returned from Raggedy Ann’s 95th Birthday ceremony in Rochester, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Minami, your favorite Japanese Raggedy products’ maker’s president and his wife came all the way from Japan, too.

I drove from Columbus, OH to pick them up in Niagara Falls in Canada the night before.
そう！ナイアガラの滝（トロントの空港から約１時間半）。
私もオハイオ州から５時間半運転して、カナダに入国。前日の夕方、お二人に合流しました。

There were many Raggedy Ann & Andy displayed here and there throughout the other exhibits. Has anyone found all the 95 Raggedy Anns hidden through the museum?

As we went on, A big Raggedy Ann on a rocking horse was awaiting us all the way up high at the event hall.

There were lots and lots of happy birthday messages to Raggedy Ann.
As the time was nearing to the opening of the ceremony at 2 pm, TV camera crews started to show up and Joni (granddaughter of Raggedy Ann’s creator, Johnny Gruelle) was being interviewed.
会場にもたっくさんの人達が詰めかけて来ましたよっ。
Many people gathered around at the event hall.
コレクション副社長 Chris Benschさんが登場してセレモニーの開始です。ラガディ・アンとこの日駆けつけてくれた原作者ジョニー・グルエルの家族の紹介で始まりました。
The ceremony kicked off with Chris Bensch’s, Vice President of Collection, speech introducing Raggedy Ann and its creator, Johnny Gruelle’s family.
大きな、大きなバースデーケーキでお祝いしてもらってアンちゃん、とっても嬉しそう！
Raggedy Ann looked so happy to be cerebrated with a big big birthday cake!

こちらはミュージアム２階に常設されたラガディ・アンの展示。このセレモニーの後、グルエル家に残った写真や手紙などを含めた常設展示が企画されているそうです。
This is a part of Raggedy Ann exhibit upstairs. Strong Museum received family pictures, letters, and alike and are planning a bigger exhibit in the future.
I am really glad that I did not take Calder with me while I truly believe this trip starting from the Niagara Falls to the Strong National Museum of Play would make a perfect vacation with him. I would probably been stuck in front of this guy for a good half hour etc… hahaha… I will make a separate trip sometime soon, maybe this summer, to bring Calder here at this museum for sure!
Having seen all the children’s smily faces while taking a picture or dancing with Raggedy Ann&Andy, I am so happy to see Ann and Andy found a new home at the Strong National Museum of Play where many families with children visit year after year.
